Paste-like foam materials, or multi-part combinations of paste components, for the production of porous, solid, inorganic foam products contain: (A) an inorganic stone-forming paste component; (B) a water-containing hardener paste which effects the hardening of (A) under alkaline conditions; and (C) a foam-producing paste component containing one or more of a foaming agent, e.g. sodium, potassium, calcium or barium hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide, and hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric, citric, acetic and/or phosphoric acid, in amounts sufficient to influence pore structure and/or strength. Also claimed are: (i) the production of foam products from a composition as above containing foaming agents; and (ii) porous inorganic foam products obtained by the process, with a density of 40-1000 kg/m<3>, a relative compressive strength of 0.2-60 N/mm<2>, an average pore diameter of 0.1-10 mm, and a fire resistance (DIN 4102 Part 9) of more than 180 minutes, with fire test ratings of A1 (building materials; DIN 4102 Part 1), S180 and R120 (DIN 4102 Part 11).
