Event data is generated within an embedded system, such as that provided for a mobile telephone. The data is sequentially processed by a plurality of sub-processes(701-702). A plurality of prioritized data queues are (716-718) defined, along with an indication as to which input event data is supplied to which of said prioritized queues and which prioritized sub-processes are arranged to receive outputs from said queues. The queues are examined to identify the highest priority queue with buffered event data stored therein. The identified data having the highest priority is supplied to defined sub-processes and thereafter a consumption policy is returned from the sub-process identifying whether said supplied event data may be resupplied to the next prioritized process. However, the queues are reexamined so as to process a new higher priority event or, if no such new event exists, processing of the previously supplied event continues.

|
