PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character processing device which has a high KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese character) conversion success rate by converting the reading strings into the descriptions based on the pairs of example words stored in an example dictionary storage means, the reading of words stored in a word dictionary storage means, the descriptions corresponding to words and the parts of speech corresponding to words respectively. SOLUTION: A word dictionary of an external storage device 22 stores the reading of words, the descriptions corresponding to words and the parts of speech corresponding to words respectively. An example dictionary stores the pairs of example words. A KANA/KANJI conversion part (CPU 21 and KANA/KANJI conversion program 242) converts the reading strings into the descriptions based on the example word pairs stored in the example dictionary, the word reading stored in the word dictionary, the descriptions corresponding to words and the parts of speech corresponding to words as long as no puntuation marks exist between two paragraphs of a reading string. The program 242 receives the character information from an input buffer 241 and performs the KANA/KANJI conversion by making reference to the word dictionary memory and the example dictionary memory which are stored in the storage device 22. |
