PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vapor deposition type magnetic recording medium having improved still durability. SOLUTION: First and second magnetic layers 2, 3 are formed on a base film 1. DLC(diamond like carbon) layers 4, 5, 6 are formed between the base film and the first magnetic layer, between the first and second magnetic layers and on the second magnetic layer. These DLC layers are so formed that the amts. of the fluorescent org. molecules in the layers attain DLC layer 4>DLC layer 5> DLC layer 6. The DLC layer 6 of the uppermost layer preferably satisfies the relation 0.56<=Ib6 /Ig6 <1 in the ratio of background intensity (Ib) and peak intensity (Ig) at 1550±50cm<-1> in Raman spectrochemical analysis.
