PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for melting iron raw material which can improve the utilizing efficiency of scrap by efficiently melting preserved iron. SOLUTION: At the time of melting the iron raw material only with the combustion flame of an oxygen burner 1 in a melting furnace which is sequentially arranged with a preheating part 3 for preheating the raw material above a melting part 2 provided with the oxygen burner 1 and arranged with a contracting part 4 having smaller inside diameter than the inside diameters of the melting part 2 and the preheating part 3 between the melting part 2 and the preheating part 3, the prereduced iron of iron ore is used as a part or all of the iron raw material.
