PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device constituted so that a desired developing state can be stably maintained by suppressing the retention of developer in a developing area even when the toner concentration of the developer of a developing sleeve carried to the developing area becomes ununiform for some reason or other. SOLUTION: This developing device is constituted so that a latent image on a photoreceptor drum 1 is developed in a state where the developer on the developing sleeve 4 is brought into contact with the surface of the drum 1 and toner is fetched in the developer by the movement of the developer accompanied with the developer carrying action of the sleeve 4. Then, the developer on the sleeve 4 is prevented from being retained in the developing area by making the miximum filling coefficientρ2 of the developer on the sleeve 4 in the developing area smaller than the filling coefficientρ1 of the developer when it is passed through the doctor 6 by setting a gap Gp between the surface of the sleeve 4 and the surface of the drum 1 in the developing area to be larger than a gap Cd between the surface of the sleeve 4 and the tip of a doctor 6. |
