PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce ower consumption without lowering the detection accuracy, by equipping a visual axis detection means to detect the visual axis direction based on an eyeball image received by a light receiving means and an eyeball detection means to detect an approaching eyeball. SOLUTION: In eyeball detection, a microcomputer turn s a light emitting diode 14 on to accumulate light in an image sensor 12 for a prescribed time. An image signal is read out from the image sensor and judges whether an area with a brightness corresponding to a Purkinje image is included in the image or not, and if it is judged included, the eyeball detection is finished as the eyeball is in a contact state. In visual axis detection, the microcomputer 17 drives the image sensor 12 for a prescribed time and calculates the average brightness level Vs of all picture elements. It also determines the accumulation time based on Vs and turns on the diode 14 to accumulate in the image sensor 12, then detects a pupil image and a Purkinje image from images outputted by the image sensor 12 to calculate the visual axis information from the mutual position relation. |
