The system is for compressing and extending PCM data. The system includes: an upper tone data memory(101) for storing an upper bit of sampled data; a lower tone data memory(102) for storing a lower bit of the sampled data; an address generating part(100) for generating a corresponding upper and lower address to transfer a desired data to the upper and lower tone data memories(101, 102); an upper tone reproducing part(103) which receives a repeat code and a data increasing/decreasing code generated by the upper address, and reproduces an original upper tone according to a reproducing parameter; a ower tone reproducing part 109 which receives a lower tone code generated by the lower address, and reproduces an original lower tone according to a reproducing parameter; a digital signal processor(105) which receives a signal from the upper and lower tone reproducing part(103, 104) and calculates the signal to an original sound.
