Methods and devices for using and putting to account electronic means of payment in an open, interoperable system for automatic levying of charges

The method is implemented in a system whose main components are a fixed interrogator (12) and mobile transponders (14) with their respective antennas (18,30). Each transponder has a slot for a smart card and a keyboard for input of the user's PIN. The toll is computed and charged, a receipt is issued and the payment is checked by transfer of corresponding movement data and accounting data over the wireless interface. The accounting data are structured for further processing by a bank or other credit institution and if necessary by a provider of accountancy services.
