PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly safe metastasis inhibitor containing, as active ingredient, a specific sulfated polysaccharide, having excellent metastasis inhibitory effect, suppressing metastasis to other unaffected organs, and making common cancer therapies such as surgical therapies and radiotherapies more effective. SOLUTION: This metastasis inhibitor contains, as active ingredient, a sulfated polysaccharide (e.g. with rhamnose as the main constituent saccharide, having a molecular weight of 100000-500000, and containing calcium) obtained by deproteinization of the hot water extract from algae such as Spirulina blue-green algae. Specifically, the sulfated polysaccharide can be obtained, for example, by the following process: spray-dried powder of the above mentioned algae is suspended in 4-20wt. times of water followed by conducting an extraction at the reflux temperature for 30min or longer, and the resultant extraction suspension is subjected to centrifugal separation, the supernatant thus produced is separated and collected, and then subjected to deproteinization with a relevant agent such as trichloroacetic acrid or hydrochloric acid followed by centrifugal separation, and the resultant supernatant is dialyzed. It is preferable that the amount of this inhibitor (medicinal agent) to be administered is 0.01-50mg or 0.01-10mg per kg b.w. a day for oral or parenteral administration, respectively. |
