PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous compact process for producing a low α-olefin polymer using a chromium catalyst whereby a by-product polymer component can be efficiently separated. SOLUTION: Low polymn. of an α-olefin is conducted in a low polymn. reactor in the presence of a reaction solvent and a chromium catalyst component which at least comprises a chromium compd., a nitrogen compd., and an alkylaluminum compd. The resultant reaction liq. is fed into a degassing tower to recover an unreacted α-olefin and then fed into a product distillation tower, where the resultant low α-olefin polymer is recovered as a liq. distillate and a polymer component produced as a by-product and the catalyst component are condensed and recovered as a bottom product. The by-product polymer and the catalyst component are kept dispersed in the reaction liq. in the process line ranging from the outlet of the reactor to the inlet of the distillation tower. |
