PRODUCTION OF INORGANIC SEPARATION MEMBRANE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modify the inner walls of pores of the membrane through the treatment at a room temp. in the atmosphere with a simple method by subjecting the inner walls of the pores of aγ-Al2 O3 membrane to modification with a solution of a metal alkoxide having low reactivity to water. SOLUTION: In this production, an AlOOH sol prepared by hydrolyzing an aluminum alkoxide is applied on the outer surface of an a-Al2 O3 porous supporting tube and fired at 400 to 700 deg.C to form aγ-Al2 O3 membrane on the outer surface. This supporting tube is immersed in a solution of a metal alkoxide having low reactivity to water while evacuating the inside of the porous supporting tube to a reduced pressure to impregnate the insides of pores of theγ-Al2 O3 membrane with the solution and then, the resulting supporting tube is dried and thereafter fired at 400 to 700 deg.C to modify the inner walls of the pores of the membrane under mild conditions.
