PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a hair tonic, comprising a saccharide ester of a fatty acid, excellent in hair growth effects, capable of reducing a feeling of stickiness and raising a mild feeling for the scalp and good in feeling of use. SOLUTION: This hair tonic comprises 0.1-30wt.% saccharide ester of a fatty acid represented by the formula [aA(OH)b-c-1 - (OR<2> )d -O-R<1> }]-(OCOR<3> )c [aA is a saccharide skeleton after removing OH groups contained in a condensed monosaccharide A at saccharide polymerization degree (a) therefrom; (a) is a number of >=1; (OH)b-c-1 indicates that (c+1)×OH groups in (b)×OH groups bonded to the saccharide skeleton participate in a reaction; R<1> is a 1-22C monofunctional hydrocarbon; R<2> is a 2-4C lower alkylene; (d) is 0-20; (OR<2> )d -O- R<1> } is bonded to an anomeric carbon of the saccharide skeleton; R<3> is an aliphatic group having an even number of C chain length; (OCOR<3> )c indicates that (c)×R<3> groups are bonded through the carboxyl group to C other than the anomeric carbon in the saccharide skeleton represented by aA; (c) is a number of >=1] as an active ingredient. A saccharide ester of the fatty acid, having an odd number of C chain length and represented by the formula is improved in low-temperature stability in (hydrous) ethanol alone and can stably be blended in various blended compositions without adding an additive thereto.
