PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to efficiently sort postal items by delivery areas and to rearrange sequence of delivery by forming allocations of sorting lots according to the constitution of the postal items to be sorted and sorting machines. SOLUTION: The sorting conditions of the postal items are inputted to an input device 121 and the allocations of the sorting lots 205 of the postal items are formed in accordance therewith. The postal items are inputted to the sorting machine 200 and the addresses of the postal items are recognized in an address recognizing section 202. The allocation of the first time of the sorting lot 205 formed according thereto is referenced and the postal items are sorted to the sorting lot 205. The sorted postal items are inputted to the sorting machine 200 in order of the sorting lots 205. The addresses of the inputted postal items are again recognized and the postal items are sorted by referencing the allocation of the sorting lots corresponding to the place of the number of the sorting times formed according to these addresses. The processing from the input of the entire postal items to the sorting is repeated up to the number of the sorting times formed. As a result, the postal items are efficiently sorted by the delivery areas and are rearranged in the sequence of the delivery.
