DECOMPOSITION OF PORPHYRIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decompose porphyrins under mild conditions to remove porphyrin metal complexes in fossil fuel by allowing a microorganism in Pseudomonas capable of decomposing porphyrins to act on porphyrins. SOLUTION: A microorganism in Pseudomonas capable of' decomposing porphyrins such as Pseudomonas azelaica YA1 strain (FERM P-15356) is added to a porphyrin such as a porphyrin metal complex or nickel protoporphyrin and they are cultured in a medium to allow the microorganism to act on and decompose the porphyrin whereby the removal of porphyrin metal (nickel or vanadium) complexes from fossil fuel becomes possible under mild conditions.
