PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a magneto-optical garnet having a low temperature dependence of a Faraday rotation angle and a low insertion loss by growing the magneto-optical garnet in a mixed gas atmosphere containing oxygen. SOLUTION: A mixed gas atmosphere containing 1-10% oxygen is used as an atmosphere during the growth at the time of growing a magneto-optical garnet having <=350μm thickness of a Tb-Bi-Fe-based garnet at 0.85<=(x)<=1.1 when the ratio of Tb to Bi is represented by Tb3-x Bix on a nonmagnetic garnet substrate by using a liquid-phase epitaxial(LPE) method with lead oxide, bismuth oxide and boron oxide as a flux.
