The device holds a flexible cable (2) in a U-shaped clamping groove located in a drive disc (13) that is connected via a drive mechanism (16) to a motor (17) and/or a hand crank. The distance between the groove walls is adjustable. A wheel (15) is wedged against the cable where it enters and leaves the groove. Components (24) are used to apply pressure to the sides of the disc in an axial direction. The cable is stored between the base of the clamping groove and the outer diameter of the wheel and it passes around both the drive disc and wheel.
