A gun has inner and outer electrostatic heads 4, 16 both of cylindrical or slightly conical form spaced by an electrically-insulating member 15 and rotated by an electric motor 9 through a shaft 14. Paint is supplied to the head 4 by a pipe 3 and via a trigger-operated valve 12, and the motor is powered by a cable 8 through a trigger-operated switch 13. A high potential is applied to the head 16 by a cable 5 connected through a resistance 6 to an electrode 7 which either contacts the head or is spaced a very short distance from it. Paint supplied to the inner head is submitted to a first atomization at an edge 4a due to centrifugal force and the electric field existing between the heads; the particles are attracted to the outer head which produces a second atomization at an edge 16a and the particles are directed towards the object 17 to be coated. |
