Feed utilization by animals, e.g. poultry and pigs, is increased by incorporation in the diet of griseoviridin and/or viridogrislin either as the free antibiotics or as salts or esters. The antibiotics are produced by certain strains of Streptomyces griseus and by a strain of a Streptomyces species, designated T-2184, having characteristics similar to the S.griseus strains. The dried fermentation residue of T-2184 may be used. The antibiotic material may be incorporated to the extent of 1 mg.-100g. per kg. of feed. |
