Light from a picture plane (0) meets a concave meniscus (1) opposed to the incident light. The meniscus is formed from a lens group comprising a diverging lens and a trailing convex one. The light from this meets a group of convex lenses (2) formed from two or three separate lenses (2a,2b,2c). The light then meets a convex group (3) and has a convex incoming radius of curvature. This group comprises a convex and a trailing diverging lens. Finally, the light meets a raised meniscus (4), out from which it is parallel and meets the eyepiece's outlet pupil (5) so that the observer may see it.
