Suction cup handling hot glass sheets without surface damage

A blunt-conical sealing section (1) of an elastomeric suction cup is formed. This has an inner disc (2) connecting to the suction line. An inner ring of the sealing lip is stretched over. The conical section is formed from an elastomer. A heat resistant textile (5), especially of aramid, glass and/or carbon fibres is inlaid into the blank. The concave interior of the blank is laid against the textile. The mould is closed, and under increased pressure and temperature, the blank is vulcanised- or melted onto the textile. The elastomer penetrates into, but not completely through the textile. Also claimed is a suction cup made as above.
