The system for estimating the movement of a video image by pairing blocks comprises a candidate vector movement processing circuit. This calculates the errors between the pixels, which are placed in correspondence by this vector for each block of the image. The processing circuits (8i) accumulate the errors at the level of each line of a block to provide the partial sums. The processing circuits (8i) relating to the candidate movement vectors of the same component are coupled together to form a chain, the chain being re-looped by the intermediary of a memory (9). This allows a transfer the partial sums of the calculated errors for the current video line for the preceding block to the corresponding following blocks, the memory being linked to the inputs of the corresponding processing circuits. These transfers are effected during the calculation of the partial sum of the current block.
