<p>Apparatus is disclosed for the forming of an annular depending skirt on the bottom of a container, such as a carbonated beverage bottle, which includes a plurality of articulated fingers extending into the mold cavity having distal ends which are proportioned to be received within a preform skirt portion prior to the blowing of the preform. The fingers are operated by engagement of cam surfaces concurrently with the blowing of the preform into a mold cavity to cause a programmed expansion of the skirt portion into a final single thickness annular skirt on the finished container.</p> |
