Drum chipper 1, which is suitable for simultaneous chipping of by-products that occur in veneer factories, veneer cores and sawing end remnants and waste veneers, which are thinner than these, on one side of the periphery of which chipper additional chipping blades 4 have been added, this side chipping veneer cores that occur in adjusting logs with all the cutters 2, 4 on the chipper. The other side of the drum chipper 1 chips waste veneers with half the number of cutters 2, it being possible to adjust to an optimum chip length using one and the same chipper 1 both for chips from veneer cores and sawing end remnants and for chips from waste veneers. A counter-cutter 5 for chipping veneer cores and sawing end remnants on one side is located on a lower level than a counter-cutter 3 for chipping veneer waste. Thus the coarser raw material can be fed by means of a downward sloping feed conveyor 7 to the side having a number of cutters 2, 3. This produces a more advantageous chipping angle for veneer cores and sawing end remnants. The separation of veneer cores and sawing end remnants and the finer waste veneers into separate raw material flows is done upstream of separate feed conveyors 6, 7, a slope being created on the upstream conveyor so that the veneer cores and sawing end remnants roll to their own side and the waste veneer is guided to its own side. In this way the different raw material flows are guided onto their own feed conveyors 6, 7 and onwards for chipping, which chips the different raw material forms to the correct chip length using their own specific number of cutters. <IMAGE>
