PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To independently and concretely test and evaluate various evaluations for a secondary battery in a method of evaluating a secondary battery having a negative electrode formed of a hydrogen storage alloy. SOLUTION: This method comprises interposing an electrolytic solution 3 between a positive electrode 2 and a negative electrode 1 formed of a hydrogen storage alloy to form a secondary battery, and supplying a charging current of a prescribed current value between the electrodes 1, 2 to evaluates the charged secondary battery. At least one equilibrated electrode potential is detected when the charging is stopped before the charge of the secondary battery reaches a saturated state to lay the reaction of the negative electrode into equilibrated state, and the potential deviation between the detected equilibrated electrode potential and a preset standard electrode potential is calculated, and the secondary battery is evaluated on the basis of the potential deviation.
