PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new anticancer substance: a UCK14 compound having excellent antineoplastic effect, thus useful as an antitumor agent, etc., by culturing an actinomyces UCK14 strain belonging to Streptomyces and having abilfty to produce the UCK14 compound. SOLUTION: This UCK14 compound is a new antineoplastic substance expressed by the formula [R<1> is H or of the formula COOC(CH3 )3 ; R<2> and R<3> are each H or combined into CH2 ], having excellent antineoplastic effect, thus being useful as an antitumor agent etc. This UCK14 compound is obtained by the following process: microbes belonging to Streptomyces and having ability to produce the UCK14 compound [e.g. Streptomyces sp. UCK14 strain (FERM BP-5203)] is inoculated upon a medium and then cultured at 25 deg.C for 96h, the cultured product is then separated through filtration into a culture filtrate and microbes, the filtrate is passed through an adsorptive resin column to make the active ingredient in the filtrate adsorbed on the resin, the adsorbate is then eluted with methanol-water, and the resultant active fraction is conctentrated and subjected to silica gel column chromatography for purification. |
