PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize improvements in initial activating characteristic and internal conductivity by treating a hydrogen storage alloy powder with an acidic aqueous solution after treated with an alkaline aqueous solution. SOLUTION: A hydrogen storage alloy powder treated with an alkaline aqueous solution is kneaded with a thickener or binder and water to form a paste, and the paste is adhered to a metal current collector, whereby a hydrogen storage allay electrode is manufactured. In this method of manufacturing the hydrogen storage alloy electrode, the hydrogen storage alloy powder is treated with an acidic aqueous solution after the treatment with the alkaline aqueous solution. Thus, a hydroxide film on the hydrogen storage alloy surface, particularly, an alkali-resisting metal-rich layer formed on the hydrogen storage alloy powder surface by the alkali treatment, for example, nickel hydroxide on the surface of nickel-rich layer is satisfactorily removed, whereby improvements in initial activating characteristic and internal conductivity can be realized. |
