PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heating element having excellent electrical characteristics such as low voltage, high electric current and low resistance by using specified titanium oxide ceramics of lower order. SOLUTION: This heating element is made of titanium oxide ceramics of lower order [the value (x) of TiOx is low] having NTC characteristics obtd. by firing titanium dioxide ceramics based on titanium dioxide under reduction. The titanium oxide ceramics of lower order is preferably obtd. by adding a firing aid such as CaCO3 and/or a binder such as microcrystalline wax to titanium dioxide of >=99.8% purity if necessary, carrying out primary firing, putting the resultant titanium dioxide ceramics based on titanium dioxide in a muffle filled with embedding powder consisting essentially of metal titanium and carbon and placed in a furnace contg. an oxidizing atmosphere and firing the ceramics under reduction preferably at 950-1,500 deg.C. |
