PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the charge and discharge cycle characteristic, high temperature storing performance of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery by partially substituting Ni of LiNiO2 with a specified element in a specified ratio. SOLUTION: This nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is formed of a negative electrode formed of a material storing and releasing Li ion, or a negative electrode formed of Li or Li alloy, and an electrolytic solution in which an electrolyte is dissolved in a nonaqueous solvent. The positive electrode active material of this nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is formed of a composite oxide represented by the formula LiNix Coy MzO2 (M represents at least one component selected from the group consisting of Cr, V, Fe, Mn), which has a composition of x+y+z=m (0.95<=n<=1.05), 0.6<=nx$0.9, and 0.1×y$0.25. In the formula LiNixCoy MzO2 , desirably, M is Cr, and 0.03<=nz<=0.15. |
