PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element constituted by forming high-polymer liquid crystals having excellent durability and stability as a function layer without impairing the function possessed by these high-polymer liquid crystals. SOLUTION: This optical element is constituted by successively forming a high-polymer liquid crystal layer 2 and a protective layer 1 on a base material 3. The protective layer 1 consists of a resin contg. a polyvinyl acetal resin. The protective layer 1 is preferably formed of the resin contg. the crosslinked polyvinyl acetal resin or the resin contg. the mutually infiltrating high-polymer meshlike structures contg. the polyvinyl acetal resin. Further, the protective layer consists of plural layers, one of which consists preferably of the resin contg. the polyvinyl acetal resin. The high-polymer liquid crystal layer 2 is formed of the high-polymer liquid crystal which are formed of a copolymer of a mesogene monomer and non-mesogene monomer and are crosslinked. |
