PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for lithium secondary battery which is inexpensive and excellent in resource property, and also excellent in cycle characteristic with high capacity by using a compound oxide of Li-Ni-Al-P system having specified composition for the active material. SOLUTION: This positive electrode active material for lithium secondary battery contains a composite oxide represented by the formula LiNiw Alx Py Ox (wherein 0.4<w<1.1, 0<x<0.6, 0<y<0.1, 1.8<=z<=2.2). This lithium secondary battery has a positive electrode using the above positive electrode material, a negative electrode and an electrolyte. The positive electrode active material in which Al and P having small ion radiuses are coexistent in addition to Li and Ni shows excellent resistance to collapse of crystal even under charge and discharge cycles. |
