In the control column, an absorber element (AE) is connected by a coupling element (CE) to the head of the fuel element (BE), and absorbing material (15, 32) is fitted in the zone lying between the lower edge (HA) of the absorber bodies (26) contained in the absorber element and the upper edge (HF) of the fuel contained in the fuel stems (7) of the fuel element absorption material (15, 32) is fitted which in practice spreads across the entire coupling element. Absorption pins (15) are designed in the fuel element which get across the cover slab (6) of the fuel element and penetrate in the intermediate space between the upper stems (7). The respective absorber element has a hollow cylinder (32) enveloped by coupling parts (30, 31) due to which the deformation of the power in the fuel stems which may arise in the operation of the reactor is eliminated when a zone freed from the fuel of the fuel element is established at the upper edge (HF) of the fuel and when, in addition, there are no absorber bodies of the absorber element.
