ALCOHOL SYNTHESIS CATALYST AND METHOD FOR ITS PREPARATION

The catalyst is used in the manufacture of methanol. It contains, in wt.%: from 20 to 65 copper, 0.5-5 silver, from 25 to 70 zinc (II) oxide and from 5 to 30 aluminium (III) oxide. The method consists of mixing 0.05-0.5 M solution of zinc (II) and silver (I) nitrate and copper (II) and aluminium (III) nitrate and 0.5 solution of sodium base at continuous agitation and temperature around 100°C. The sediment formed is filtered, washed, dried at 60°C and reduced for 3 h with 1 to 5% H2 in N2 at 250°C after which the finished catayst is made into tablets.
