A battery cable clamp (2') is incorporated in the casing (11) of a safety separator (2) to form a compact structural unit. A vehicle power supply cable (engine starter cable (4)) is attached to the separator in such a way that in the event of an accident it is disconnected by a built-in auxiliary drive member (6) that is actuated with a control pulse from an accident sensor (airbag control device (1)) and that a spacer (14 or 14') is used to prevent other electroconductive contacts.
