The present invention relates to compounds of formula (I): (wherein X is an optionally substituted benzylimidazole group; Y is an oxygen or sulfur atom; Z is a 2,4-dioxothiazolidine-5-ilidenylmethyl, 2,4-dioxothiazo-lidine-5-ilmethyl, 2,4-dioxooxazolidine-5-ilmethyl, 3,5-dioxooxadiazolidine-2-ilmethyl or N-hydroxyureidomethyl group; R is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, hydroxy, nitro, amino or aralkyl; and m is an integer from 1 to 5(; having valuable activity for the treatment of several dysfunctions and/or prophylaxis, including one or more of: hyperlipemia, hyperglycemia, obesity, diminished tolerance to glucose (TDG), insulin resistance and diabetic complications.
