The present invention refers to a preparation and evaluation technique of catalytic compositions for carbon monoxide and hydrogen reaction, which comprise metallic oxides promoted with a basic metal, the compounds being prepared by gel impregnation with an alkaline salt-carrying solution, the resulting product is subsequently calcinated to obtain the catalyst. The catalysts are formed by metallic oxides from groups I-B, II-B, VI-B and VIII of the elements periodic table, promoted by the basic action of an alkaline metal, the oxides content is comprised between 95 and 97 percent by weight, and from 3-5 percent by weight of basic agent. Also, the innovation is related to the resulting catalytic structure and to the process for the preparation thereof.
