PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate an inclusion from a bubble with accuracy by eliminating the influence of the fluctuation of the shape, location, and size of a defect. SOLUTION: In a method in which a defect existing in a material 3 to be inspected is detected and the kind of the defect is discriminated by ultrasonic flaw detection, whether the defect is an inclusion or bubble is discriminated based on parameters (the phase, frequency, and intensity of a defective echo) obtained from a defective echo waveform and parameters (the bottom-face echo intensity and the area of the defect) obtained from the waveform of n echo reflected from the bottom face of the material 3 near the defect detected by means of a probe 1. |
