PROCESS FOR PREPARING READILY DISPERSIBLE WATER-SOLUBLE CELLULOSIC POLYMERS

An improved process for surface treating water-soluble cellulosic polymers with cross-linking agents to provide products which are more readily dispersible in cold water, and have longer viscosity delay times than can be achieved with polymers treated in low intensity mixers, such as ribbon blenders, comprising distributing the cross-linking agent using a continuous, high intensity mixer, followed by heating to facilitate surface cross-linking. This process also allows for a reduced level of cross-linking chemicals to be used.
