The invention concerns a device for supplying an internal combustion engine with fuel, in particular in a motor vehicle. The fuel is drawn by a fuel pump (16) from a fuel reservoir (10) and fed via a forward flow line (20) to the fuel apportioning system of the engine. To ensure smooth and continuous operation, means are provided which prevent the reservoir (10) from being emptied below a defined level. The means in question can comprise at least one switch (34) which detects the fuel reservoir level and actuates a control device (36) which cuts the engine or switches off the fuel pump (16) when the reservoir reaches the defined level. The means can also be floating valves (62, 82) which shut off the intake line of the fuel pump (16) when the fuel reservoir is down to the defined level.
