The invention relates to a hydraulic power-assisted steering system for motor vehicles in which the steering wheel (29) is normally only operatively connected to a servomotor actuating the vehicle steered wheels by way of a control system (34). In the event of the control system (34) malfunctioning a forced hydraulic link automatically occurs between the servomotor (4) and a hydraulic delivery unit (13) constantly in a forced link with the steering handle (29), to form a "hydraulic linkage".
