Railway track substructure servicing method

The method involves digging a progressive access trench led forward inside the track as far as the travelled rail sector, where the rails are separated off their sleepers ahead of the trench and splayed out to the trench's width, only to be restored to their original condition behind the trench. A trench support frame (6) is fitted with a holder (7) used to splay and guide the rails (4) separated from their sleepers (5), and also has a support (13) for the plant (3) responsible for excavating or filling the track base. The support is a plate, spaced from the longitudinal ends of the trench, spanning its width and lain below the rails, which (4) can be secured in track formation on the plate. The holder (7) locates the rails at selected spacing. The plant is preferably an excavator, the ground removed from the trench over a ramp itself secured to the structure frame. A swivel wing (8) at the rear end of its cutter (1) acts as a vertical or draft rudder.
