The transmission device includes a pressure sensor (14) which is connected with the operating unit or CPU (12) of the engine control unit (11) and produces an analogue voltage corresponding to the instantaneous atmospheric pressure at sea or mountain level. The CPU is coupled with the operating unit (16) of a control unit (15) for automatic transmission through the signal line (20). There is a drive (13) on the transmission side of this line, and resistances (17,19) and a Zener diode (18) on the receiving side. The signal line is raised to the voltage supply (VC) level by the resistance, varying between earth level when the drive is ON and the voltage supply level (VC) when it is OFF.
