Silver@ coating article to provide chromium-like appearance

Producing a chromium-like optical layer on an article surface involves preparing the surface for silver adhesion and then applying silver nitrate and a reducing solution. When the article is an aluminium or steel wheel rim and/or an aluminium or plastic wheel cover preferably provided with a lacquer or powder layer, it is initially surface activated by chemical, electrochemical or electro-physical treatment, contacted with an activating or wetting agent, washed with demineralised water, exposed to reaction of silver nitrate with the reducing solution until a silvery layer has formed on the treated surface, rinsed with demineralised water, dried and coated with a protective coloured clear lacquer layer or a colourless powder.
