The invention relates to a digital data transmission system for a limited bandwidth channel (6) for transmitting a digitally coded signal (p(k)) which changes only insignificantly at each scanning interval. According to the invention, said digital data transmission system has a transmission filter (2), downstream of which is fitted a bit signal (u) to pulse-width-modulated signal (uPWM) converter (4), a limited bandwidth channel (6) and a receiver filter (10), upstream of which is arranged a pulse-width-modulated signal (uPWM) to bit signal (u) converter (8), where said receiver filter (10) behaves complementarily to the transmission filter (2). This provides a digital data transmission system by means of which the output signal of a known 4-bit sigma-delta converter can be transmitted via a limited bandwidth channel (6) without adversely affecting the converter speed or resolution and in which the data transmission effort is small.
