The method adjusts resistors which are made of resistive layers mounted on a dielectric. A cross-sectional area effective for the value of the resistance is reduced by at least one section generated using a laser beam whilst simultaneously measuring the resistance value, until a predefined resistance is reached. The section begins and ends inside the resistive area occupied by the layer. In one embodiment the cutting operation begins at a predefined distance from the edge of the resistive area.
