The circuit is for converting a property of a signal for a high definition VCR. The converting circuit includes: a demodulator(2) for demodulating an output of a tuner(1); a decoder(3) for deformatting an output of the demodulator(2) according to respective data, M.V., DCT data, other data and performing dequantization and reverse-discrete cosine transformation; a scaler(12) for calculating a data stream from a selected output of a variable length decoder(31) of the decoder(3) and an output of a variable length code converting part(13); and a scaler controller(14) for controlling the scaler(12) according to a record mode.
