Low cost, accurate measurement unit detecting height of e.g. plastic frame profile for finishing

The device carriage block (1) is moved towards the profile (5) by servomotor. A measuring rod (9) moves towards the profile on the carriage block (1) which has a sensor (15) fixed to it (1). Its transmitted signal relates to measuring rod displacement. A unit determines the height of the profile from this, and a further location signal, from the servo unit. Also claimed is the measurement. The rod is moved to an end position against the profile when the carriage block advances to it. On making contact, the rod is moved towards its other end position, and on reaching a defined location of rod relative to block, the height of the profile and position of the block are calculated.
