Multilayer, co-stoved lacquer coatings for e.g. vehicle bodywork

In the production on a substrate of a multilayer coating made in sequence from an aqueous base layer (i), an aqueous polymer dispersion layer (ii) and a transparent cover layer, all stoved together, layer (ii) contains (a) an acrylate polymer based on, by wt., 30-60% 1-8C alkyl (meth)acrylate, 30-60% vinyl aromatic monomer and 0.5-10% (meth)acrylic acid; and (b) a non-associative thickener containing an acrylate copolymer based on a 1-6C alkyl (meth)acrylate and (meth)acrylic acid. Also claimed is the process in which the layer of (a) + (b) composition has been applied as a repair layer.
