The invention relates to a friction body (10) which has a basic structure (14) on which a layer (16) is applied by thermal spraying of a copper alloy. Said copper alloy contains 10 to 45 % by weight of zinc, 0.5 to 10 % by weight of at least one element of the group comprising aluminium and silicon, 0.1 to 8 % by weight of at least one element of the group comprising iron, cobalt and nickel, 0.1 to 4 % by weight of at least one element of the group comprising titanium, zirconium, chromium, vanadium and molybdenum, and copper as a radical with random impurities. The copper alloy is applied to the basic structure by thermal spraying and the only other treatment it requires is embossing in order to achieve good tribologic properties comparable with molybdenum coatings and a good resistance to wear. Alternative copper and zinc alloys may have, in particular, additional manganese, iron and lead constituents.
