The turning flap device has a flap (1) and a carrier shaft (2) fixed to it. The free end sector (22) has a first engagement sector (2a) to use with either a manual drive or an automatic drive, and a second engagement sector (2b,c) to use with the other form of drive. The free end part may be tubular, with the first engagement sector formed radially on the outside, and the second engagement sector formed radially on the inside. The free end part may have an external flat spot at only one part of its outer circumference or at the edge of its tubular shape.
